History
Mrs. Martha Wamae was and is still regarded as a mother by many. She was always completely absorbed in her Christian faith and charity, which took up a significant portion of her time. Days and nights were spent caring for the sick and less fortunate, which presented challenges and opportunities that were hard to imagine.
Mrs. Wamae’s particular interest in education stemmed from her father, who had an immense love for education. Having been raised in a very humble background, she understood the impact education could have and the turnaround it could cause in her life. Through education, she was able to live a much-desired life and provide the best for her family.
She traveled far and wide to assist less fortunate children through education, particularly during her mission travels as she was also a missionary. Whether in schools, churches, or wherever she could find someone genuinely in need of assistance through their studies, Mrs. Wamae helped the children directly or found them a donor.
Her desire was that less fortunate children could have a chance, and in her spirit of service, she gave many hopes for success. She regarded every child as her own, and they could approach her on any pressing issue. She mentored each one of them, steering them in the right direction. Her home was open to all “her children,” and she broke through the conventional bond of family and property. Her life tended to shade into a life of service, and many lives have been changed under her fostering care. Through her good works and her vision of giving education to all, the Martha Wamae’s Foundation was born.
