Livelihood and Economic Empowerment
The Martha Wamae Foundation seeks to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment as a means of achieving long-term sustainability. The Foundation recognizes the importance of building sustainable livelihoods and increasing economic opportunities for individuals and supports programs that focus on providing access to resources and skills necessary for achieving these goals.
Donations to the Martha Wamae Foundation can help to support sustainable livelihoods programs such as training in sustainable agriculture techniques, promoting ecotourism and other environmentally-friendly economic activities, and supporting entrepreneurship and small business development. With your support, the Foundation can continue to promote a sustainable future for individuals and communities around the world. Through a multi-faceted approach that includes policy changes, investment in education and training, and a focus on inclusive economic development, the Foundation is working towards a sustainable future for all.
Why We Take Action
More than 2.9 billion people – nearly half the world’s population – are under the age of 25. Instead of attending school, millions of girls and boys in rural areas worldwide are child labourers. They are everywhere, but often hidden, on farms, on fishing boats, in plantations, herding livestock or toiling as domestic servants. This situation perpetuates a cycle of poverty for the young people involved, their families and communities. Without education, these rural boys and girls are likely to be the poor of tomorrow. We believe it is crucial that these young people have the knowledge and skills to succeed in life if we are to break the cycle of poverty.
